Looking for the best romantic comedies on Netflix? Gotcha covered.
Whether it’s for girls’ night with the gang, a romantic date night for two, or just the cherry on top of a solo at-home spa day, a good romantic comedy has it all — the heart, the laughs and the swoon-worthy story.
Sometimes, you just need something light and funny to watch. While all of these movies have loveable characters and a romantic-themed plot, many of these movies will surprise you with their depth and quality.
We love a good movie night in our house, and I love a movie I know won’t have me covering my eyes the whole time due to the graphic violence on screen … so we do a lot of comedies.
I also like to laugh. Sue me.
What typically happens is my husband will roll his eyes and grumble in the beginning, but then become totally invested in the plot and laugh with the best of ’em. Secretly.
He won’t admit that he thinks rom-coms are great, but I know these things.
Anyway, here are six of the best rom-coms on Netflix that are shockingly good for being in the “rom-com” movie category (that can often be so cheesy!). Check them out:
1. Someone Great
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 82%
This one.
Ugh. My heart. It’s a suckerpunch because it is SO relatable and real. This film absolutely floored me. You go into this movie thinking it’s gonna be a “Screw boys! Let’s have a girls wild night, whoohoo!” situation, and then it cuts you right to the core.
The film follows the unspiraling of Jenny and Nate’s relationship when Jenny learns she got her dream job across the country. The way this movie shines a light on the good and bad of the relationship is so realistic, and it keeps the friendship of three girls as the rock of the story.
And, it’s all set to a soundtrack that steals the show.
It is incredibly written, directed and acted, and manages to find poignancy, raw emotion and lighthearted laughter all at once. Cannot recommend enough.

2. The Incredible Jessica James
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 88%
OK, I haven’t watched this one yet, but it keeps popping up everywhere on “best of” lists, and it’s been recommended to me multiple times!
The story revolves around a twenty-something theatre lover who is obsessed with getting one of her plays produced … all while dealing with a really tough breakup.
All I know is that it stars Chris O’Dowd, and so I’m IN! (He’s that cop that Kristen Wig falls for in Bridesmaids).
Random side note: I saw him on Broadway several years ago alongside James Franco in “Of Mice and Men” and his performance BLEW my mind. I’ve called myself a big fan ever since. It’s on my list.
3. Always Be My Maybe
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 89%
Ali Wong is a comedic powerhouse, and I will be here for her one-liners until the day I die!!!!
She penned this with her co-star on the film, Randall Park (brilliant and hilarious in his own right), and writer Michael Golamco. And frankly, they nail it.
They manage to bring a not-so-original storyline (can old friends break out of the friend zone?) to a completely fresh, modern level that works in the real elements that often factor into making a relationship work — for example, supporting each others’ careers vs. one having to give everything up for the other.
10/10, highly recommend. My husband dubbed this one the “most surprisingly good one that I thought I wouldn’t like but did.” 😉
4. To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 97%
Hear me out: This is a teen flick, but it doesn’t read like one. It’s genuinely so funny, so poignant and so completely charming that this film hangs in there with blockbuster Hollywood films.
It’s so cute.
And, now there’s a sequel available to stream too, so you can just hunker down and binge the entire afternoon.
5. About Time
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 69%
SWOON. <3
Y’ALL. This movie came out in 2013 and somehow I slept on it for all these years? It is SO GOOD.
Rachel McAdams and a really sweet actor I don’t know named Domhnall Gleesonj star in a heartwarming story with many twists and turns.
Without giving too much away, this movie involves time travel (but not in a super sci-fi way) and the things we are willing to do for family. It’s a must-watch.

6. Set It Up
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 92%
OK here’s another one I haven’t watched, but that comes highly recommended.
Zoey Deutch stars as an assistant who tries to set her boss up with her other boss? It has amazing reviews, and I hear Zoey Deutch is absolutely charming. Adding it to my queue now!
That’s the list! I hope you’ve found a new title to enjoy. Grab the popcorn, pour a glass a wine and cozy down for a fun movie night!
